The first rat maze study that we believe to have been the first one was done in 1901. By Willard Stanton Small, he built this six foot by eight foot maze. He found that intelligent rats for sold the maze quicker. Rats are a really good model organism for looking at like cognition. They're also very understandable and human like to an extent.
