The Self-Conscious Hollywood
Adam O'Brien asks how self-conscious Hollywood is these days that cultural consumption is largely a product of marketing. He says there's also a sense that the star system has stalled and that because of this studios are regurgitating new versions of existing models. And so you have this aging cohort of bankable stars and it's very difficult by the logic of the system to break new people into it, he adds.
