In Romania, a large number of Christians within the churches were actually co-opted by the state and became state-in-formers secretly. And what that meant was that long after the communists had been overthrown, there was this atmosphere of mistrust. When you can't build those kind of vulnerable relationships, then I guess my fear is that the faith remains kind of surface level and it never really goes deep. But again, I'm afraid it's not new.
