Political and Extremist Parties During and After the 2008 Economic Crisis
Previous studies have found that crises often resulted in a surge of support for parties located on the far side of the political spectrum. In Austria, there was no real left-wing party which would have offered something for these pessimistic young people. The pessimism about the future and the feeling that one may lose out in comparison to one's parents indeed correlates with more extreme political attitudes.
