The Reluctance to Refer a Child to a Pediatrician for Autism

The most common questionnaire is called the modified checklist for autism and toddlers or the M chat. It does not work as well with families of color, but there are reasons why from different cultures that have different attitudes around providing information. The other thing is that it does require literacy and understanding of child development. And so for those reasons, when it's used in real world settings like primary care, it's really not performing as well as it should.
