The Importance of Recognizing New Testament Letters as Messages

In New Testament letters, I tend to think we're not really studying these things right. There's something again unnatural about an individual holding a Bible and reading it by herself or himself. Another implication of New Testament letters being occasional literature is that they are ad hoc exhortations. They're commanding specific communities to take specific action given specific situations. We got to keep that in mind.
