Lectins have been shown to be bad for gut flora. Potato lectin activates basophils and mass cells of atopic subjects. Peanut ingestion increases rectal proliferation in individuals with mucosal expression of a peanut lectin receptor. There's also a good amount of literature from the animal experimental space looking at phytohymagglutin and other lectins in rats and mice.
