Saint Thomas - Prayer, Hearing, Reading and Meditation
Saint thomas says, man attains to the knowledge of truth in two ways. One way through those things which are received from another. And so certainly, with respect to those things which man receives from god, prayer is necessary. According to wisdom, seven, i called, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. All right, but what does wisdom have to do with the intellectual life? I think its significant that saint thomas lists prayer even before hearing reading and study. He says that prayer is necessary with respect to what we receive from god. By spirit of wisdom, saint thomas understands the gift of wisdom from the holy spirit.
