In the 1950s, there were no effective treatments for atherosclerotic heart disease. The first cardiovascular risk factor we made some inroads on was blood pressure. In 1987, when statins got on the market, men didn't suddenly stop smoking. And it's sort of, you know, about 10 years later, women started to catch up.
