The Politics of Self-Defense

There is a self-fulfilling prophecy here in that if I convince myself that the world is an unsafe place, I'm more likely to take an act because my perception is that it's very likely I will face an unsafe situation. Different people's perceptions are different as far as the likelihood that they're going to face a violent encounter. But there is a political aspect to this because public safety is in 2023 a political issue. It gets a lot of media coverage, particularly in certain corners of the media.
