Michael Kaufman a great military analyst an expert on these things was very cautious about what he could be drawn on. He said the most likely scenario seems to be a long drawn out war of attrition with neither side making huge gains. If they do get the other hand militarily thanks to Western support they will most likely not stop but continue as far as they can go.
