The Battle of Bachmud

Ukraine was trading experienced soldiers in veteran brigades, primarily for or in many cases for fairly inexperienced Russian troops. The decision to hold Bachmud first put the city in a very precarious position of near encirclement by end of February and beginning of March. Ukraine was able to stabilize the flanks at that point but the city was ultimately lost.
