The best hedge funds are less reliant on sell side ideas today because of this problem. The quality of research is lower with all these other, we'll call them perversions or externalities. As an analyst on the buy side, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't do your own work first and then go to I think to the street to see. There's still some great ideas generated out of the sell side.
