The King's Procession in Angkor Wat

A Khmer prince returns to his homeland after being exiled to Java in 790. He conquers other contenders for the throne and is crowned Jayavarman II. Crucially, he rejects their Buddhist religion in favor of Hinduism. The king starts a tradition of Angkorian god kings that will rule for 600 years.
