The Parallels Between Social Security and Government Programs
There's this striking parallel between financial bubbles and big successful government projects where they both coordinate a lot of behavior that is optimal. So if you look at the Apollo program you could imagine the components of a spacecraft being invented over a 50 year period so we by the year 2000 have became a wooden land on the moon. The PC revolution is something similar as Bill Gates was able to consistently build applications for much more powerful computers than existed before he knew it would be used two generations later. Financial bubbles and governments are good at coordinating people's behavior in order to pursue some distant uncertain objectives.
