The Importance of Proof of Use in Basic Science
When I came up with this concept of computational irreducibility in the 1980s, I kind of saw it as being an indication of sort of limitations on science. That was a very kind of charmingly unanticipated kind of consequence of that idea in basic science. Now, if you ask the question, if you say, can we make kind of proof of useful work, so to speak, can we do something where we are sort of running the AIs as a proxy for generating value? I mean, you know, as a pure sort of crypto type protocol, I don't know how to do that.
