Cantango Futures - What Is It?
Futures instruments listed on the c m e are not perpetual instruments. They have a delivery date, which means that they constantly have to be rolled forward into new futures contracts expiring at a later date. The future's price can either be above spot, called being in contango, or it can be below the spot, being in backwardation. Here you can see the prices for different expiry dates, out until december.
