Socrates liked to say that the people and Athens who complained about being poor and obscure, not having any status or influence in society were counting their blessings now. And so it's surprising what sometimes can be an advantage, even physical illness or injury can sometimes be turned into something positive. It could be a learning experience and I think the benefits of it makes us stronger if we can take it the right way.
Elliot Chung, a student at Phillips Academy Andover, interviewed me recently for his new Philosophy for the Modern Mind podcast, and we decided to share our conversation on this podcast as well. We talk in particular about how Stoicism could be of practical benefit to young people, and the challenges they face today.
