There were seditious lible laws that came from england back in the thirteenth century. The governors of british, british royal governors threatened to use them against a whole variety of publications. So if you criticised the government, in this case, george the third, or parliament, or the royal governor, you could be prosecuted and put in jail for that. And ther werea lot of prosecutions in seventeenth century. But in the eighteenth century, you see a lot of pushback. And so one's protest breaks out against the british those now the common law of seditious libels is just ignored, and it's a free for all. That
