The Role of VPPs in the Energy Market
Last summer, Sunrun operated a VPP with thousands of homes in New England that provided 1.8 gigawatt hours from customer home solar and battery storage systems to the grid during peak summer months. Tesla also has a VPP that you just mentioned with PG&E in which customers with its Powerwall battery packs can sell power back to the grid for $2 per kilowatt hour. And as we detailed in Episode 186 on Vermont, Green Mountain Power has what I think is probably the longest running VPP using home battery storage systems.
