Empathizing With the Suffering in the World

There's just so much suffering in the world, and if we open our hearts to it, it has the effect of making us miserable. We suffer infinitely if we put even a little bit of weight on the heartbreak of ucranian or syrian children caught in war zones. A single death is a tragedy. If there ar a million deaths, you don't get the same kind of emotional arousal. And i suspect there are also psychological reasons not to cure much about other people.
