How to Leverage Open Standards for Instrumentation
When possible, leverage open standards for that instrumentation. One of the challenges I faced at IMADA when I worked there was that the trace model there is not a span based model. Users are going to want more data, more refinements than you can typically offer them unless you're an actual vendor. And then it's a huge education challenge in terms of working with them to figure out what the right things are so they can get the most value. But just know that if you're building your own platform, it will likely be seen as a cost center.
