The Effect of Ratings on Employee Retention
Tiddellis and Hoffman looked for any causal relationships between the rating of a given manager and employee outcomes. They found that it just didn't seem to matter whether the manager was highly rated or poorly rated. But there was one other outcome to look at: Employee retention. That's associated with an attrition drop of about 60%. And we see then is that managers help retain better employees more than worse employees.
