Firefighting in the Wild West - A Case Study
Hiker tried to start a signal fire the night before, but couldn't get it lit. He also found rattlesnakes in his sheep herder shack where he overnighted. It was 14 miles back to his car and he'd already run out of food and water. Powers later told the United States Forest Service that he feared that he was, quote, done.
