The Strength of the American Consumer

The economic date over the last week has been pretty good news. The share of small businesses reported having trouble getting credit actually declined in April relative to March. This maybe creates a little bit of downside risk to our estimate of a 0.4 percentage point growth drag in 2023. Any pullback and lending growth is probably going to take some time to play out.
