In Our Time: Philosophy

CHAPTER

How Can We Be Authentic Without Being Influenced by Others?

Simon de beauvois was a much more practically minded philosopher than sartre. She saw faster than sartra that one had to take social position into account when talking about freedom, and there were degrees of freedom pending on the kinds of social relations in which we find ourselves. As she says in the second circumsection: how can we be authentic ourselves, e or even know what that means, without being influenced by others? It looks like there's going to have to be some notion of how we can live an authentic life amongst with each other, amongst e one another.
