The Differences in Vowels in English

In English, we have long vowels and we have short vowels. A long vowel is the vowel that kind of makes the sound of the letter. For example, when it's a long vowel, it's pronounced A like hate or ice cream. The word hotel has a different O sound than the word hostel. In other languages, vowels can only have one sound sometimes.
