The Influence of the Hume Essay on Miracles

The Scottish philosopher David Huw in the 18th century, his essay on miracles in 1748, he, I believe, was a deist. What it did is exactly what Janet said, he in a sense encapsulated this move towards having a world that was knowable and could be discerned. He introduces in a very sharp and stark way, attention with a God who has to intervene into the world to produce a miracle. And we've been struggling ever since with those who want to say God could not act like this,. and those who say, well, maybe the world is the mind of God.
