We're hard wired to respond to rhythm. Neuro scientist ushagoswami is researching how children learn to use language. All words across human languages are composed of syllables. And a syllable is either strong or weak. When we hear the spoken word, neurons in the brain start firing electrical signals on the stressed syllables,. and the brain resets itself to keep time with that and decipher speech. when there's a strong rhythm to the speech, as is common in poetry, the brain finds it easier to reset itself and follow what's being said.
