The Media's Representation of the Case of Lindy Chamberlain
The Chamberlands were awarded 1.3 million in compensation for wrongful imprisonment, a sum that covered less than one third of their legal expenses. The case is now used as an example of how media and bias can adversely affect a trial. People also judged Lindy on the way in which she grieved, with some saying her media appearances made her look cold and unsympathetic. It took until February of 2012 for the Northern Territory coroner Elizabeth Morris to offer an official apology; it was too little too late.
