CHAPTER

Docker vs Kubernetes Deployment

Just doing a proper deployment like that, that's a lot of work. Writing those scripts took like three weeks. So basically we did all that trial and error and fixing for all other developers so they can just get their server up and running in 15 minutes or something like that. I think Google Cloud will probably be the next big one and Kubernetes because you will be able to run that pretty much anywhere. Right now we have support for AWS and eC2 instances but we're going to add more options there in the future for sure.

Yeah, so

basically batteries included kind of framework ready to go. You just go with it. Everything you need is all right there for most things at least. And
Speaker 1
I mean, just doing a proper deployment like that, that's a lot of work. Writing those scripts took like three weeks. It was kind of a painful experience. I haven't done that before but you're so used with using Flutter and the hot loads and stuff and then you're using Terraform scripts on AWS and every iteration takes like five minutes. So I think that's a different experience and then the SS, oh no, something is wrong. You have to fix it try again, wait another five minutes. So basically we did all that trial and error and fixing for all other developers so they can just get their server up and running in, I don't
Speaker 2
know, one will take 15 minutes or something like that. Yeah, I think you have to cover kind of the bare essentials of deployment right nowadays everybody deploys the Kubernetes.
Speaker 1
Yeah, if you have other
Speaker 2
solutions bare metal you can never forget about that's always going to be something you have to be able to handle. Yeah, Docker would but that's if you have Kubernetes, it's almost the same I think it shouldn't be much difference with Docker and Kubernetes to a certain extent. Right, it is getting the image built. Some kind of like maybe Heroku but that one you could use Docker, you can use some kind of build pack. I mean, I think those are probably the biggest things you need to kind of run, right? Yeah, and also you know how to deploy with Firebase, etc. These are all going to be addressed, right?
Speaker 1
Right, yeah. I mean right now we have support for AWS and eC2 instances but we're going to add more options there in the future for sure and I think Google Cloud will probably be the next big one and Kubernetes because you will be able to run that pretty much anywhere. So it would be also nice to be able to support
Speaker 2
that.
