The Imitative Counterpoint of a Fugue
The longer and more expressive you try to make a round, the more absurd it has to become. The imitative counterpoint of a fugue is that one voice leads other voices against each other in an interesting conversation. We want to hit on a style now that's imitative, but it doesn't directly copy the first melody before. So it merely imitates them. And that’s what a fugues are: independently moving voices going against other lines creating counterpoint.
