The Battle of Cana
Hannibal's army had not significantly varied in size since the last engagement, and amounted to forty thousand infantry from various backgrounds. The sheer number of men amassed in one place would heavily tax the roman logistical system. Many of the legionaries that would be fighting at canai were unseasoned recruits, compared to the battle hardened carthaginian army that had been working together for over two years. Even accounting for the disparity in troop quality, how victory against such an overwhelmingly larger force was a tough sell.
