Is There a Dialectical Syllogism?
In thomas aquinas, you might think he's demonstrating, but he's not. Why? Because we don't know the premises. Or there are different reasons. If i want to go to heaven, i have to die in a state of grace,. But, ah, it's not determined, right? Whether i do this thing or that thing. And so what are the ways in which our willing isun erment? In text seven, we'll see that he gives three different ways. The first one is about different means to an end. The second is about willing or not willing. The third one is about true and apparent goodsiht So what's the first way?
