As a child, visiting my grandparents, I was always impressed by the great dignity of those who were doing manual labor that I saw around. And so as I began to develop this character of Shamio, in that scene, it just seemed organic that he would gather this baby. He would restore some dignity to the indignity of this terrible, terrible tragedy. It just seemed right. As a writer, there are moments when you come to something, you know, it's right.
