How Marx became a Marxist
Spectre of Communism
00:00
The First Year of the Communist Manifesto
Marx and Engels' communist manifesto was published just before the revolutionary wave of 1848 broke out. The extent to which the publication that pamphlet would have influenced the revolutionary workers, I can only explain it was very limited. They did have some influence on leading layers of the chartis movement. Unfortunately, their influence starts to rise as chartism itself starts to wane after 1848. And actually ended up playing quite a noticeable role in the American Civil War,. But I don't think you can blame either Marx or Engels for that.
