The Army's First Experience With Mechanization
The 11th Airborne Division was the U.S. Army's only combat division during World War One. The campaign in the Philippines began with a series of air drops from C-47s into the jungle, then moved to heavier firepower up into the mountains. "It became a combination of improvisation and motherhood being the necessity of invention," says author David Frum.
