Haines looks up at the sun, which hangs low in the sky. Their third day stranded at sea is almost over. He knows that this young sailor and many others like him won't survive another night out here. Why the hell haven't they been rescued yet? Haines feels a hand on his shoulder and turns to see another sailor at his side. It's father conway. Haines freezes. Father thomas conway has always been a steady friend to him. So the doctor return home to connecticut to visit his family.
