Song of the south's white protagonist is johnny a boy of six or seven who was riding in a horse drawn buggy with his mom, his dad and their servant. The movie introduces a literal note of false romanticization of the plantation in the reconstruction era. Here, gregg to land's moody synemotography and the over expressiveness of kid actor bobby driscoll combine to depict the plantation as a dark dream space,. heightened uncertain but not quite a nightmare.
