Between 91 and two thousand nine the agency's budget grew from 12 million to a hundred y two million a year. A total of around two point five billion dollars having been spent on research into complementary and alternative medicine, hardly any treatments were proven effective. The data also showd that acupuncture may help with cemotherapy, nausea and some joint pain, but that sham treatments that either used retractible needles that didn't actually penetrate the skin or ignored acu puncture points or meridians together, worked just as well.
