The History of Ancient Greece, Episode 13, Hoplight Warfare
The tale of Hesiod, which involves him in a poetry contest with Homer, is more than certainly false. Two different traditions record the sight of Hesiod's grave. However much he railed against the wealthy and the powerful, Hesiod though was not a champion of the oppressed. The stage of revolt has not yet been reached, but the grievances were aired. In the next episode, hand in hand with a society that developed in the wake of the political formation of the Polis, revolutionary changes in warfare were also taking place.
