The Benefits of Having a Good System Design

i try to keep things as simple as possible, while still allowing me to have the benefits of having a good system design. For example, when i work on my web side, on swift bicon, on the web side code, i have something very specific that i want to do. But at the same time, i don't want to end up with just tons of tec dept and just like piles and piles of hacks,. I want to strike a nice balance there.
