Women in the Field - What Are the Challenges?
When I was a graduate student at Berkeley, my advisor did not take women in the field. So that was kind of a big blow and I thought, well, why am I going to continue this? One of my fellow students suggested that maybe since I wasn't going to be able to go into the field, maybe I should work with a collection. And so I actually went down to South America, worked at several collection on material in collections in Argentina. From then on, I really focused on material that had already been collected.
