A lot of pundits don't have philosophical training or even necessarily a kind of deep literacy in the humanities. I'm afraid that the current media landscape doesn't really care much as long as it gets those clicks and brings in the traffic that's what matters. Sometimes the most ignorant outrageous take will travel furthest because the audience doesn't have much of that education either. Everyone can kind of whip whip each other into these froths of indignation about something that's really a phantom if you if you have that history and background.
