As both a writer and a human being, ask yourself what emotional need is underneath that. When someone's doing something irrational and logical, don't say they're irrational and illogical, right? They're human. Instead, connect to the emotional need. What need are they trying to have met? And if you start to notice that, it will help build empathy and connection with other people.
