Englishness was the centre of the idea of civilization. All the way from india to australia to south africa. If civilization is trying to turn you into a black english person, then lititur is the key to that kind of socialization. For european culture to take on its prominence, its dominance in the world, it had to demonize another culture that was considered primitive. And what was used often was african culture. So it's almost like afAfrican culture then became the shadow side of this flourishing of europeanculture.
