Mary: Can we even put ourselves in the mind set of a woman in a provincial part of afghanistan who never thought that way? Is that a possibility? And should we be acknowledging imean yoben? Evenifwo go back to the soviet occupation, em soviets expended a greatdeal effort into now expanding girl's education and having female pilots and female politicians. Maternal death rates are extremely high among afghan women. The taliban have written very compassionately about this. But i think we should take everybody's pronouncements with a healthy pinch of salt.
