Stoics would encourage us to have friends, because we could set up some kind of symphony. The material we have onstoic friendship suggests that true friendship is actually a good - even in the strict stoic sense. To be a good friend, he has to have the same kind of virtues that you have. And it's only virtuous friends who could therefore help each other.
