The Gambler's Fallacy
The gambler's fallacy is the belief that after a run of reds in roulette, the ball is bound to land on black. It works by deluding a temporary balance, not by compensating for it. Not everything in life is a roulette wheel - we don't know if lebron james has the hot hand because he seems to be in a run of form or just discerning patterns in randomness. And so we need to be careful just porting over fallacies from a situation that we understand very well and assuming they will always work in the real world.
