The other big recommendation we got which I do want to try but I haven't yet is for an app called photo mechanic. Peter Kaiser wrote it has a great a previewer to look through all the images on the SD card you're ingesting from before you ingest them and you can discard the ones you don't want to ingest then when you do ingest you can rename the images based on whatever variables you want to specify. This would be good for your old workflow case if you remember you're going to switch over to use iCloud photo library so you won't need this anymore am I though anyway?
